PUMA releases J. Cole’s RS-Dreamer basketball sneaker

After announcing a partnership in February, J. Cole and PUMA have officially debuted their first footwear collaboration: the RS-Dreamer basketball shoe. Frequently spotted on the feet of PUMA Hoops athletes like Kyle Kuzma, DeAndre Ayton and more ahead of the NBA season’s restart, Cole and PUMA’s first footwear project is a versatile silhouette that’s equally at home both on and off the court.

Inspired by pursuing one’s dreams, the RS-Dreamer sports Cole’s DREAMER logo on the heel. Cole himself explained the logo, stating “When said out loud, all the best dreams sound crazy. Dreamer was created with the belief that, still, we must follow ours, no matter how unachievable they may seem to others.” Apart from this special logo, the shoe features a 5/8 cut with a sleek black upper, a new cord lacing system and colorful detailing around the midsole with clashing yellow, red, purple and mint accents.

From a technological standpoint, the RS-Dreamer repurposes signature cushioning from PUMA’s RS running line for a speedy, responsive on-court feel. This is combined with basketball-specific ProFoam and a versatile traction pattern for all-surface grip.

Although it’s a performance shoe at its core, the RS-Dreamer is designed to be worn casually as well. “Over the years, basketball shoes have progressed greatly in their level of technology and comfort but have strayed too far away from designs stylish enough for cultural relevancy” says Cole. “The Dreamer hopes to change that reality. The highest level of on-court performance meets the highest level of aesthetic design for daily wear. Once again, you can hoop in the same shoes you wore outside.”

Retailing for R2699, the RS-Dreamer will be available from PUMA.com, PUMA stores and selected retailers from 3 August 2020. Additional iterations of the RS-Dreamer are slated to release throughout 2020.
